The Catalina GP got off to a red hot, Red Bull start on Saturday, December 4th.
This small island, located a scant 26 miles from the Golden Coast of Southern California, held the first day of competition for what promises to be one of the best races in America. A wide variety of off road racers and race enthusiasts were on hand for this unique race. Vintage racers, desert racers, motocrossers, Grand Prix riders, and almost everyone in between, made it out to the legendary island for some super charged race action.
Along with the recent Pala Raceway 'Day In the Dirt' this event was a huge hit with large numbers of West Coast race fans and riders. The day started out, cool and overcast, with light sprinkles, but soon blossomed into a bright A-typical California sun drenched day. The track itself, was a mix of long, fast straights, with uphills, dropoffs, downhills, and a fun and challenging layout. There was literally something for everyone racing.
Spectators also turned out by the boatload, to view the exciting race action on Saturday. If you get a chance next year, jump on the Catalina Island Express and get out there and see who gets to claim the title of Catalina GP champ. Fun is assured.

Billy Hamill's Junior Speedway Academy
We can't say enough good things about what Doug Nicol and Billy Hamill are doing for the sport of American Speedway racing. A tip of the ORI visor to Martin Hagon, of Hagon shocks, as well, for donating the vehicles used for the Billy Hamill Junior Speedway Academy. This event lets future Speedway racers try out the sport, basically for free.
Billy Hamill's Junior Speedway Academy at San Bernadino's Inland Motorcycle Speedway at Orange Fairgrounds was a resounding success. This outstanding program is a result of Martin Hagon, of Hagon Shocks, who donated the machines, and Billy Hamill, Doug Nicol, and a dedicated crew of Speedway professionals, caring enough about their sport to give first time riders a free look at what racing Speedway is all about.
First time Speedway riders from 8-15, are offered Free Bikes, skid shoes and boots, to try their hands at Speedway racing at the Junior Speedway Academy. What a great way to get new blood into the sport. Billy Hamill and Doug Nicol's sons, lent their considerable skills to show what Speedway racing is all about.

Noted BMX and X Games racer, T.J. Lavin was listed in critical condition after being injured during qualifying at the Dew Tour Championships in Las Vegas Thursday night (10/14/10). The 33-year-old Las Vegas native and host of MTV's "Real World/Road Rules Challenge" is in a coma in critical condition at the University Medical Center in Las Vegas.
Lavin was attempting a freestyle stunt at the event, but failed to get his feet back on the pedals before landing. He was thrown from his mxer and knocked unconscious. Dungey and Canard Take National Motocross Titles at Lucus Oil AMA Outdoor Motocross National Finals at Pala
Team Suzuki/Rockstar/Makita racer, and newly crowned Supercross champ, Ryan Dungey did something few moto riders have ever done. With his win, at this years final outdoor motocross National at Pala Raceway, not only did Dungey break Ricky Carmichael's rookie season record of nine overall wins, he tacked that record onto his already impressive rookie season ow winning the AMA Supercross championship!
Talk about over achievers. Dungey did it with a smooth as silk performances aboard his Suzuki 450, after he and Suzuki Team manager, Roger DeCoster, addressed some of the early engine issues that surfaced in the season opener at Hangtown (see the Off-Road Illustrated, Roger DeCoster interview in our YouTube video section for more).

Cycle News Bites The Dust.
I got my start working at Cycle News Central, back in Austin, Texas in the mid seventies. I dropped by their offices, located on the posh, but low-brow, West side of Austin, near infamous Barton Springs.
A era in modern motorcycle journalism has come to an end. The announcement that Cycle News has indeed, discontinued publishing, layed off their remaining employees, and closed the doors, has hit everyone who ever worked at this weekly "Cycle" news paper hard.
The saddest thing is that the people working there were doing, and will continue to do, a great job in this industry. Cycle News was on the forefront of a lot of the changes happening in moto-journalism today. The idea that they were not adapting to the rise of the internet, or the fickle nature of people looking for news, instantly, just doesn't hold water.
They were among the first to make use of the internet and rapid news dissemination. Its founders, Chuck and Sharon Clayton, took a local weeky motorcycle paper and made it into one of the most progressive and loved institutions in our sport. Covering every aspect of motorcycling, including local events, on a National level.
Unfortunately, what took Cycle News down was a dogged refusal to maximize it strengths, and minimize its problems. In these trying financial and economic times, the ability to pull everyone in the same direction is critical and essential to success. That just did not seem to be in the cards for the troubled company, whose problems seem to mount over the last few years. Read More on the demise of Cycle News at Off-Road Illustrated

Suzuki RH125 RM125 Factory Replica Vintage Motocross - Dave Miller Concepts
Here it is, the latest, Dave Miller Concepts project made out of junk, dug out of a hole in Idaho. Originally got it for Marty Tripes series, 100cc, "Works Revenge" Vintage Race Series, that was going to be certain year/models. We were going to go have some fun with some old factory guys, race motocross on old stuff, not clear 80-foot triples, and drink beers after and laugh about it.

2010 Honda CRF250 - Motocross Test
With a new twin-spar, aluminum frame design, a peppy mid-range motor, and razor-tight handling, the 2010 Honda CRF250R can be layed down enough to drag the standard Renthal handlebars.
For 2010, Honda took what they had learned from the 450R and rebuilt their CRF250R with a dizzying list of improvements. First of all, it has a completely redesigned, fuel-injected engine. The motor uses similar space- and weight-saving technologies as their proven CRF 450R, and now comes with their new Twin-Spar aluminum frame. Read More...
Honda, surprisingly enough, was not content with having a competitive Middleweight roost rocket in the Super Lite pro motocross ranks. Even though Trey Canard propelled last years machine to the AMA East Lites Championship, Honda's engineers and designers were not about to rest on their laurels. So they rolled the dice, revamped the formula, and instituted a host of changes (minor and major) hoping to make this already fine machine, even better.
If you remember, it was only last year, that Honda reinvented the CRF450R. The rugged and reliable CRF450R, got a new frame, new fuel injection system and a lengthy list of moto-specific improvements. This particular machine has been their main weapon, in the do-or-die, pitched motocross battles that occur at tracks all across America's heartland. Read More...
