The Catalina GP got off to a red hot, Red Bull start on Saturday, December 4th.
This small island, located a scant 26 miles from the Golden Coast of Southern California, held the first day of competition for what promises to be one of the best races in America. A wide variety of off road racers and race enthusiasts were on hand for this unique race. Vintage racers, desert racers, motocrossers, Grand Prix riders, and almost everyone in between, made it out to the legendary island for some super charged race action.
Along with the recent Pala Raceway 'Day In the Dirt' this event was a huge hit with large numbers of West Coast race fans and riders. The day started out, cool and overcast, with light sprinkles, but soon blossomed into a bright A-typical California sun drenched day. The track itself, was a mix of long, fast straights, with uphills, dropoffs, downhills, and a fun and challenging layout. There was literally something for everyone racing.
Spectators also turned out by the boatload, to view the exciting race action on Saturday. If you get a chance next year, jump on the Catalina Island Express and get out there and see who gets to claim the title of Catalina GP champ. Fun is assured.
